Capital of the week: SURROUNDING

PABUCA Capital of the week is…

Hamburg

Peter Jackson would have saved a lot of money by putting the set for THE SHIRE (AUENLAND) of  the ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie at this location in the surrounding of Hamburg, instead of traveling to New Zealand. And, with all modesty, it seems even nicer. 😉 Brilliant work, Conny.

Important notice: PABUCA is no contest. PABUCA is a platform for sharing impressions of towns and an incentive to look for it. So “The capital of the week” is no winner of the theme or necessarily the “best shot”. We wouldn’t presume to declare something like that. But it’s an example, which in our subjective opinion unterlines the idea of PABUCA: To illustrate the soul of the city.

Something special in Bonn? Thoughts about Bochum? Some words:

Christian, Bonn:

  • Inner circle: Agriculture and wood break up the suburban estates (here Ippendorf)
  • Middle circle: Exits connect the motorway ring around Bonn with the city (here Poppelsdorf)
  • Outer circle: Lonely landroads in the night lead to the villages near Bonn (here Witterschlick)

Markus, Bochum:

SOUTH:   The Burg Blankenstein is located at the Ruhr’s south river side in Hattingen-Blankenstein, but since 1922 it’s a property of the city of Bochum. The construction was finished in 1243. I grew up pretty close to that place and it offers us an actually great playground when we were kids. The role allocations was always quiet clear: boys –> knights / girls –> princesses 🙂

EAST:   Motorway A43. …it’s greener there as you expected, huh? (as far you can say that by a monochrome picture 😉 )

NORTH WEST:   At the very left side on the horizon, you can see a part of the Schalke-Arena (12km). In the center of the horizon you see the cooling tower of the EON power plant Gelsenkirchen (19km). The little mountain right next to that is the slag heap of Bottrop (25km).
