Capital of the week: INSIDE

PABUCA Capital of the week is…

Herford

by LOG

https://ansichtsplattform.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/pabuca-inside-01.jpg

Very special views inside in Herford. LOG discovers places actually known from the outside. It seems like a expedition to the inner Herford.

Important notice: PABUCA is no contest. PABUCA is a platform for sharing impressions of towns and an incentive to look for it. So “The capital of the week” is no winner of the theme or necessarily the “best shot”. We wouldn’t presume to declare something like that. But it’s an example, which in our subjective opinion unterlines the idea of PABUCA: To illustrate the soul of the city.

Something special in Bonn? Thoughts about Bochum? Some words:

Christian, Bonn:

Three main-sports in Bonn are indoor / inside:  Basketball, badminton and …wrestling: Power, technique, mood

Markus, Bochum:

INSIDE REHEARSAL ROOM     Inside Mambo Kurt’s (The Orgelgott) rehearsal room.

INSIDE OUR BASEMENT     What you see here is a typically Bochum basement. We don’t care about energy crises of increasing gas prices. We dig the coal by ourselves from the basement.

INSIDE JOHN MALKOVIC     The tower of Bochums mining museum seen from inside John Malkovic.

Capital of the week: ARRIVAL

PABUCA Capital of the week is…

Pabuca City

by all

Railway stations and trains (or planes) seem to be a connecting element, where different people from different cities with different intentions arrive and meet at platforms. And yes, it’s similar to Pabuca, the “station” which connects photographical interests, but the people behind too.  We would like to thank all Pabucians for their weekly journey to Pabuca city. We think, that our central station will grow and change during the next months, and we hope that you always feel welcome here. (All entries this week in random order)

PLATFORM 3     Arriving in Bochum by train, this would be your first step on Bochums soil.

HEIMKEHRER DANKES KIRCHE     Priest August Halbe, five years of captured in the Urals, let build the ‘Returnee Thanksgiving Church’ in Bochum-Weitmar gratitude for deliverance from the prison camp. Together with 20 former prisoners of war they finished the construction in 1959.

SERVICE AREA     Arriving in Bochum by car on the A40 from Dortmund, the first you will see is the new (and Bochums first!) Service Area. It opened in November 2014… …and we are proud of it!

Something special in Bonn? Thoughts about Bochum? Some words:

Christian, Bonn:

I remember of some great moments in 2014 and look forward to repeat them.

Markus, Bochum:

HOPFENGARTEN     Our extended living room. Crossover cuisine restaurant (Westphalia/World) with a cosy pub (they served FIEGE beer and broadcasted the VfL away games) and a nice beer garden. – But it closed now. We feel homeless.

MOTORWAY JUNCTION     Every time I use that motorway junction I am reminded of my childhood, because we used that one when we were visiting relatives. But all the times when the memories popped up I was wondering: why THAT one reminds me and not any other street? And then I got it. There is no pavement marking to both sides of the road and this make it look like 40 year ago!

GUMBALL MACHINES     Against all hygienic regulations and the Geneva Convention on Conventional Weapons… …they are still there: Gumball Machines

Just an example for more than 100 schools in Bonn, leaving imprints in the cityscape.

Markus, Bochum:

PRISON:   How must that feel like, to see from a barred cell window outside all these people at a home game to lie in arms, cheering and drinking beers?

RUHR UNIVERSITY:    … located on the southern hills of central Ruhr area Bochum, was founded in 1962 as the first new public university in Germany since World War II. Instruction began in 1965. Students: 41.000

UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCE:  Founded in 1816 as a Miningschool, the ‘TFH Georg Agricola’ is nowadays a university of applied science with courses of study for earth science, mechanical-, process-  and electrical Engineering. With its 2.000 students it’s a familiarly and pleasant place to study. How do I know this? I studied there and I loved it. Absolute brilliant liaison between students and professors.

What shall we say? Never been so bored! But the minimalistic view with less colours (paired with some funny elements like underwear) shows a new side of Pfaffenhofen. Even the faszinating architecture of the town seems to go to sleep beside the useless huts.

Something special in Bonn? Thoughts about Bochum? Some words:

Christian, Bonn:

Markus, Bochum:

Stufen

Something special in Bonn? Thoughts about Bochum? Some words:

Christian, Bonn:

The House of History (Haus der Geschichte) keeps the German history since 1945 alive with many relicts for all generations. Bonn plays a big role here as the Ex-capital of Germany. One of the high frequented museum attractions in Bonn.

Markus, Bochum:

1907 a.d. : Produced for the world fair 1867 in Paris by the steel factory ‚Bochumer Verein’ with a weight of 15.000 kg and a diameter of 3,13m. But this is not the story. – What I wanna say is: Heinz Schwalguleck opened his cheese dairy in 1907.

2000 a.d. : The city hall of Bochum was build in 1912. Eightyeight years later Markus married his Victoria in exact that building.

2011 a.d. : Bochums first tram got into service in 1894 and connected the cities of Bochum and Herne. In March 2011 Kevin Schwalguleck get caught riding the U35 without ticket for the fifth time and was charged with a fee of € 40. And so everything comes full circle about this little excursus in Bochums history. Thank you.
